The session highlighted how data, simulations, and digital tools were transforming decision-making in winter road management, with speakers from the call for papers. Presentations included the Winter Road Intelligence Project from Denmark, which leveraged standardization and technology to turn data into actionable insights; advanced simulation approaches from Norway that unlocked strategic value in winter maintenance planning; a Japanese system that used digital archives of severe snow and blizzard events to support operational decisions; and a disaster risk management platform from Japan designed to strengthen resilience in winter service. Together, these contributions showcased how innovative decision-support systems were enabling smarter, safer, and more efficient winter maintenance strategies worldwide.
