This session addressed the following three key issues:
1. The use of safety planning in implementing the Safe System Approach
2. Approaches by LMCIs
3. Considerations for road worker safety

The Safe System Approach required careful planning and selection of projects in its implementation. This session highlighted various action steps towards the goal of reducing road safety casualties for road users and road workers. New approaches were presented related to planning. Presentations included safety action planning, development of a walkability index, speed management planning and road worker safety. Participants from countries of various income levels presented key steps to safety improvement.
